Cancer has a way of making you pause.
It makes you look at your life—not just the years you’ve lived, but the meaning you’ve made of them. It makes you think about the chapters you didn’t expect, the people you’ve loved, the lessons you’ve learned, and the purpose that has been woven through it all.
As I reflect on my own journey, I find myself wanting to go back and talk to the younger version of me. The girl who was simply living, dreaming, working, loving, surviving, becoming—without fully understanding the bigger story she was part of.
I would tell her that life is bigger than what she can see.
That we are more than our bodies, our circumstances, our accomplishments, our disappointments—even our diagnoses. We are eternal beings having a human experience, here for a purpose.
And perhaps one of the greatest gifts of this journey has been realizing that our time here isn’t about simply getting through life. It’s about what we create while we’re here. The love we give. The lives we touch. The freedom we help others discover. The good works we leave behind.
So this is a letter to my younger self—and perhaps to anyone who needs the reminder that your current chapter is not your entire story either.
Letter to my younger self
Dear Younger Me;
I wish I could sit beside you and tell you what I know now.
You are so much more than what you can see in the mirror. You are energy - and energy does not simply disappear. You are an eternal being having a human experience, here for a purpose far greater than the circumstances you can see right now.
You have always existed. Before this life, before this body, before this particular moment in time, you were already part of eternity. Life is not the beginning of your existence; it is a brief break from eternity, a sacred opportunity to experience time in the linear—to move through moments, choices, relationships, and lessons in a way that eternity alone cannot offer.
Like Jesus, you are here with a particular purpose to fulfill. You are here to remind people of the God that already lives within them. To help them see their worth, discover their freedom, and believe that they are capable of living fully, boldly, and authentically.
You will experience joy and heartbreak, loss and restoration, uncertainty and answered prayers. There will be chapters you never would have chosen. But remember this: **a chapter is not the whole story.**
This life is one beautiful part of your eternal existence .Your time here is an opportunity to create good works—to love deeply, to lift others, to encourage, to teach, to heal, to empower, and to leave something behind that makes someone else’s journey a little lighter.
So don’t spend your life trying to control every chapter. Live it. Love. Grow. Give. Become.
You are not here merely to exist.
**You are here to illuminate.**
And when this chapter eventually closes, the story doesn’t end. You were always eternal. You existed before this life, and you will continue beyond it.
So, younger me, keep going.
There is so much more of the story to write.
**With love,**
**Me**
